First off, there are 2 methods to installing mods: First and most popular method used by modders is the drag and drop installation, then there are .e4 mods that all you have to do is open the mod installer by selecting 'Mod Installer' on Steam after pressing Play button or open the .exe and find the file then hit open and it will install.

Where can I download the LA mod?

Why did the latest version come as an .exe file?
Because of the new freeplaymap the LA Mod has been released as an .exe file instead of an .e4mod file. The .exe installer comes with an extra option to choose between installing the new freeplay map or keeping the old one.
The new installer should automatically find your Emergency 4 directory.
How do I install the mod?
Unpack the .zip file which contains an .exe file with the name 'Los Angeles Mod v2.0' and a readme file.
Double click 'Los Angeles Mod v2.0' and follow the instructions. Make sure the installer finds the correct installation destiny (your Emergency 4 directory).
How can I delete the mod from my computer?
Either delete the mod folder located in your '..Emergency 4Mods' directory or use the Mod Installer to uninstall the mod. Both ways do the same thing.
May I host the mod at my website?
It's not allowed to host the mod at any other websites than www.emergency-planet.com.
Direct linking to the LA mod .zip file is forbidden and is punishable by law. You can report illegal hosts at the forum.
When can I expect the next version?
The creator of the mod does not work with a deadline or an exact release date. The next version will be released when it's finished. Have patience and the check the forum for updates.
Can I change the mod for personal use?
Yes, as long you do not distribute the changes you are allowed to change anything you want.

Why is the tiller not available in the original missions?
Because the LAFD tiller requires a change to the mission scripts it is NOT available in the original Emergency 4 missions. It is, however, available in all LA Mod missions and the freeplay modes.

Because of the trailer the tiller has many issues. Most of them have been listed:
- The trailer of tiller does not have physics when it is not installed. This prevents the trailer from getting stuck.
- The tiller cannot be installed at windows like the LAFD Aerial Ladder (tower) does.
- The tiller makes weird movements in corners of streets.
- The fireman on the ladder sometimes floats in the air.
- The trailer logic might be buggy and/or slow on older computers.- The tiller might be buggy during online play on slower connections.
How can I switch back to the original/new freeplay map?
You need to completely remove and reinstall the LA mod. Make sure the correct option has been checked when the installer asks to install the new map (which replaces the original map).
Why is freeplay crashing?
It can happen that Emergency 4 crashes to desktop without an error message.
A code in your configuration file can cause this problem.
To fix this: Go to your Emergency 4 folder and open em4.cfg (or em4deluxe.cfg) with WordPad.
Search for the following 'var name':
'e4_doocclusion'
Change the value to: '0'
This will remove the green shadows in your game.

If the configuration files don't fix your problems, reinstall Emergency 4 and the latest patch.
Why is the freeplaymap not showing up after loading?
If the latest patch isn't installed (properly) you can get this problem.
When you have the French or German version of Emergency 4 you might need to install the latest patch (v1.3).
911 First Responders and Emergency 4 Deluxe are already updated to v1.3. Installing a patch on those games will cause other problems.
Does the LA mod contain new missions?
Yes, the latest version of the LA mod contains ten new, exciting missions.
There are no plans for new missions.
Mission 2: Why I can't close the canister?
This is a bug in Emergency 4. This occurs sometimes after you have played another mission or freeplay before this mission.
You have to restart Emergency 4 and the LA mod to fix this problem.

Are you going to add the freeplay functions to the multiplayer map?
No, the stations won't be added to the multiplayer map, because of incompatibility issues.
The stand-by and patrol commands do work on the multiplayer map and so are the commands to call additional vehicles.
How can I play online?
When you want to play online with the LA mod, you need to have a good internet connection.
Make sure you aren't downloading or uploading stuff, because that can cause problems.
When you haven't changed anything to the LA mod and original game files you can play online without any problems.
To join an existing game, you have to load the mod and look for servers.
Emergency 4 will automaticly filter all LA mod servers, if there are any.
How can I host a game?
Start Emergency 4, load the LA mod and host a game.
Wait for other players to join.
When you are using a router you possible need to forward your network ports.
You can do that on the Internet, using www.portforward.com.
Some people still have problems after portforwarding, maybe it's better to let someone else host a server then.
How can I get the camera hack?
To zoom in or out further and get different angles you only have to edit some settings in the configuration file.
To do that, open em4.cfg (or em4deluxe.cfg) with WordPad located in your Emergency 4 directory.
You can change the following values: mincamz, maxcamz, mincampitch and/or maxcampitch.

Why do I see the editor grid after loading a map?
